MY ROLE

UX Researcher

Moderator

Evaluator

While specific details about the product are confidential due to NDA, I can share insights into my responsibilities.

Brief

Our project kick-off involved defining the key goals. The initial phase consisted of a heuristic evaluation, examining usability, functionality, and design aspects of the tool. We identified heuristics violations, assessed their severity, and acknowledged features aligning with Nielsen's heuristics.

A large portion of the project focused on testing the tool through specific tasks, breaking down the end-to-end flow. Each member of the team had to conduct 2 tests. Responsibilities were divided among moderator, note-taker, and observer, employing methods like direct observation, think-aloud protocol, post-task questionnaires, and interviews to gather comprehensive insights.

In addition to this, we had weekly meetings with the clients that provided a platform to share progress updates, discuss potential challenges along with their solutions.

Deliverables

As a part of our project, we had the following deliverables:

  • Kickoff Agenda

  • Heuristic Evaluation Report: This comprehensive report assessed both the positive and negative aspects of the software's usability. It categorized features exhibiting poor usability into severity levels: low, medium, or high.

  • Test plan: We developed a detailed document outlining the study's methodology. This included defining research questions, establishing a test schedule, identifying the target demographic and recruitment strategy, and specifying data collection and analysis methods

  • Usability Report: This final report presented to the client contained a thorough summary of the study's findings. We utilized a mixed-methods approach, gathering qualitative data during the study and quantitative data through post-test questionnaires.

Learning

This was a very exciting project, being my first client collaboration. It involved a lot of new learning and understanding of the corporate environment. A few challenges were in participant recruitment and understanding corporate constraints. Nevertheless, these challenges proved to be a catalyst for my growth, drove me to perform new tasks and pushed me outside of my comfort zone with new experiences.

I developed confidence in interacting with stakeholders, research, and translating findings into high-impact solutions. While there were difficulties at times, the experience proved invaluable in preparing me for future client work and cementing foundational UX capabilities.
